Rifampicin 150 mg, INH 75 mg, pyrazinamide 400 mg, ethambutol HCl 275 mg
Indications/Uses
Management of TB & certain opportunistic mycobacterial infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Patient ≥71 kg 5 tab/day, 55-70 kg 4 tab/day, 38-54 kg 3 tab/day, 30-37 kg 2 tab/day.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 30 min before meals. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of drug-induced hepatitis, acute liver diseases, peripheral & optic neuritis.
Special Precautions
Impaired renal, liver, visual function; diabetes mellitus, chronic alcoholism & undernourished patients. History of gout, convulsive disorders & acute porphyria. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <8 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Hepatic, renal & hematologic effects. GI effects eg, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, pseudomembranous colitis, epigastric distress, anorexia. Central & peripheral nervous system effects eg, tiredness, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, ataxia, confusion, muscular weakness, visual disturbances, peripheral neuropathy. Skin & allergic effects eg, rash, fever, urticaria, pruritus. Rifampicin: Endocrine effects. Ethambutol: Acute gout (rare).
Drug Interactions
OC or HRT, anticoagulants, antacids, cimetidine, morphine, codeine, disulfiram, anti-anxiety drugs, sulfinpyrazone, allopurinol, colchicine, probenecid, steroids, chloramphenicol, ketoconazole, dapsone, methadone, theophylline, cyclosporin A, azathioprine, diuretic & neurotoxic drugs.
